Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions we receive. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Send us a message above.
Is TMS FDA-Approved?
TMS is FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Obsessive-Compulsive
Disorder (OCD), and Smoking Cessation (nicotine dependence).
What conditions does TMS treat?
- CE-approved uses for TMS in Europe are often prescribed by our US
clinicians who are trained in “off-label” TMS procedures such as:- Parkinson’s Disease (motor symptoms, freezing of gait)
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) / Asperger’s Disorder
- Alzheimer’s Disease
- Chronic Pain (neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis)
- Multiple Sclerosis (fatigue)
- Stroke Rehabilitation (motor and speech recovery)
- Off-label prescribing is a normal and legal part of a medical practice. It
allows doctors to use their judgment to extend treatments like TMS to
areas where research shows potential benefit.
Is TMS Safe?
Yes. TMS is non-invasive and well-tolerated. The most common side effect is mild scalp discomfort or headache, usually improving over time.
What is TMS's success rate?
80%+ patients experience significant improvement; 60%+ achieve complete remission of depression symptoms.
Why is remission important?
Because remission means your chronic symptoms of not feeling well are basically gone, not just improved. Patients who achieve remission thru TMS feel and function better in daily life, have a lower risk of relapse, and enjoy a higher quality of life than those with only partial improvement.
Who is a good candidate for TMS?
Adults with depression, OCD, and other chronic symptoms who have not found relief with medications or therapy.
How long does each treatment take?
Each daily session lasts approximately 20–30 minutes.
Can I receive TMS if I have a pacemaker, implants, or other medical devices?
Not if you have ferromagnetic implants in or near the head (e.g., aneurysm clips, cochlear implants). Other devices are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Does insurance cover TMS?
Most commercial insurers and Medicare cover TMS for Major Depressive Disorder and OCD. Smoking cessation coverage is expanding. In selected states, Medicaid will cover TMS treatments.
How do I become a TMS patient?
You start with an evaluation by our clinical team to confirm diagnosis, review prior treatments, and ensure safety before beginning a TMS course of treatment.
